Warm Absorbers in Seyfert 1 Galaxies

چکیده

X-ray spectroscopy of Seyfert 1 galaxies often reveal absorption edges resulting from photoionized gas along the line-of-sight to the central engine, the so-called warm absorber. I discuss how recent ASCA observations of warm absorber variability in MCG?6-30-15 can lead us to reject a one-zone model and, instead, have suggested a multi-zone warm absorber. The evidence for dust within the warm absorbers of MCG?6-30-15 and IRAS 13349+2438 is also addressed. These dusty warm absorbers reveal themselves by signiicantly reddening the optical ux without heavily absorbing the soft X-ray photons. Thermal emission from this warm/hot dust may be responsible for the infra-red bump commonly seen in the broad band spectrum of many Seyfert galaxies.

Properties of Warm Absorbers in Active Galaxies: A Systematic Stability Curve Analysis

Signatures of warm absorbers are seen in soft X-ray spectra of about half of all Seyfert1 galaxies observed and in some quasars and blazars. We use the thermal equilibrium curve to study the influence of the shape of the ionizing continuum, density and the chemical composition of the absorbing gas on the existence and nature of the warm absorbers. We describe circumstances in which a stable war...

The X – ray spectra of optically selected Seyfert 2 galaxies . Are there any Sy 2 galaxies with no absorption ?

We present an X-ray spectral analysis of a sample of 8 bona-fide Seyfert 2 galaxies, selected on the basis of their high [OIII]λ5007 flux, from the Ho et al. (1997) spec-troscopic sample of nearby galaxies. We find that, in general, the X-ray spectra of our Seyfert 2 galaxies are complex, with some our objects having spectra different from the 'typical' spectrum of X-ray selected Seyfert 2 gala...

We present evidence that the outflowing UV absorbers in Seyfert 1 galaxies arise primarily in their inner narrow (emission) line regions (NLRs), based on similarities in their locations, kinematics, and physical conditions. 1) Hubble Space Telescope observations show that nearly all Seyfert galaxies have bright, central knots of [O III] emission in their NLRs with radii of tens of parsecs. Thes...

We discuss the origin of the " dusty lukewarm absorber " , which we previously identified in the reddened Seyfert 1 galaxies NGC 3227 and Akn 564. This absorber is characterized by saturated UV absorption lines (C IV, N V) near the systemic velocity of the host galaxy, and is likely responsible for reddening both the continuum and the emission lines (including those from the narrow-line region)...
